Law with Criminology

Law with criminology brings together two disciplines that have a great deal to say to each other. Law is the formal system of rules, obligations, and institutions through which societies regulate behaviour and resolve disputes, and studying it develops precision of argument, the ability to work with complex texts, and an understanding of how legal systems function and what values they embody. Criminology examines the social dimensions of crime and justice from a more critical perspective, asking why certain behaviours are criminalised, how criminal justice institutions actually operate in practice, and what the social and personal consequences of crime and punishment are.

Together they provide a fuller picture of the relationship between law and social life than either discipline offers alone.

At the University of Law, this three-year full-time programme is taught by an institution with a deep practical orientation toward the legal profession. You will develop the foundational knowledge of English law that any legally informed career requires, covering the key areas of substantive law alongside the procedural and professional frameworks within which legal practice operates. The criminology component adds a critical social science dimension, examining crime, policing, courts, and punishment in ways that enrich your understanding of law's real-world operation.
