Law is the system of rules and principles that regulates behaviour, defines rights and obligations, resolves disputes and governs the relationship between individuals and the state. Studying it means developing not only a thorough understanding of legal doctrine across the core areas of private and public law, but also the ability to apply legal reasoning to novel situations, to research complex legal questions and to communicate findings precisely and persuasively. At the University of York, this three-year LLB combines academic rigour with applied, practical and interdisciplinary perspectives, as the university's own description notes, ensuring you develop an understanding of law in all its contexts. You will study the core subjects of a qualifying law degree, including contract, tort, criminal law, public law and land law, alongside elective study in specialist areas and engagement with the theoretical, social and historical dimensions of law.
