Law is the framework through which societies define rights, resolve disputes, regulate behaviour, and deliver justice. Studying it at degree level is far more than preparation for a legal career: it is an education in how power is organised and constrained, how language creates binding obligations, and how abstract principles are applied to the messy particulars of human conflict. At the University of the West of England, Bristol, this LLB (Hons) is taught by leading law experts within one of the UK's largest law schools, combining strong academic foundations with genuine practical experience.

You will cover the core areas of English law, including contract, tort, criminal law, constitutional and administrative law, property, and equity. You will develop skills in legal research, statutory interpretation, and the analysis of case law, learning to construct and critique legal arguments with care and precision. Beyond the doctrinal content, the programme encourages you to think critically about the law itself: where it works well, where it falls short, and how it might be reformed.

You will engage with legal ethics and professional conduct throughout, understanding that the responsibilities of a lawyer extend well beyond technical competence. The Business and Law Clinic provides opportunities to work on real matters under supervision, developing practical skills and building your understanding of how legal principles operate in practice. The course includes a sandwich placement year that deepens your professional experience before graduation, and work placements are embedded in the programme.

The typical entry tariff is 104 UCAS points, and the degree is studied full time over three years. Graduates from law programmes pursue a wide variety of careers: solicitor and barrister routes are the most familiar, but law graduates are also found in compliance, financial regulation, human resources, government, the judiciary, academia, and commercial management. The analytical and advocacy skills the degree develops transfer widely.
