Law is the system of rules that societies create and enforce to organise social life, protect rights, resolve disputes, and hold power accountable. It pervades every area of human activity, from the contracts that underpin commercial transactions to the constitutional rules governing how states exercise authority, from the protections afforded to individuals against discrimination and harm to the regulation of environmental impacts and technological developments. Studying law develops a highly distinctive set of capacities: the ability to read complex documents precisely, to identify the legally relevant facts in a situation, to understand how principles apply to new circumstances, and to construct and communicate arguments with rigour.

At Chester this three-year full-time LLB programme builds the foundation of a future career in law while also developing the transferable analytical and communication skills that are valued across many professions. You will study the foundational areas of English law, including contract, tort, public law, criminal law, land law, equity, and trusts, developing both doctrinal knowledge and the lawyerly skills of research, problem analysis, and written and oral argument.

Graduates who wish to practise as solicitors or barristers will need to complete further professional qualifications after their degree. Many graduates also move into compliance, policy, the civil service, human resources, business, and other roles where the analytical rigour of legal training is valued.
