Law is the body of rules and principles that govern how individuals, organisations and states behave and how disputes between them are resolved. A law degree develops not just knowledge of the rules themselves but the analytical and advocacy skills needed to work with them, including the ability to read cases carefully, construct legal arguments, identify the principles beneath the precedents and apply them to new situations. It is one of the most rigorous intellectual training grounds available, and its value extends well beyond legal practice itself.
At London South Bank University, this three-year full-time programme prepares you for employment as a law professional, with a revised curriculum from September 2026 entry that places greater emphasis on employability and legal practice alongside the academic foundations. You will study the core areas of English law, including contract, tort, criminal law, constitutional and administrative law, land law and equity, as well as developing legal research skills and professional competencies. The programme makes greater use of the university's public-facing legal advice clinics, where you work with real clients under supervision, giving you the kind of applied experience that distinguishes a practically oriented law degree from a purely academic one.

Law graduates pursue careers as solicitors and barristers following further professional training, as well as in roles in the Crown Prosecution Service, government legal service, local authority legal departments, compliance, human resources, management consultancy, finance and the civil service.
