Law is a discipline that trains you to think with precision and argue with rigour about the rules, principles, and institutions that govern human conduct in society. It is both a theoretical subject, exploring the philosophical foundations of rights, justice, and obligation, and a practical one, concerned with how legal rules are interpreted and applied in real situations. A law degree provides the intellectual foundations for the legal profession while also developing skills in reading, reasoning, and communication that are valued across a wide range of careers.

At Liverpool Hope University, this full-time, three-year programme includes a sandwich year and a year abroad, as well as work placement opportunities. The curriculum begins with the foundations of legal study, covering public law, which examines who makes laws and how, and the law of obligations, which addresses contracts and civil liability. As you progress, you will engage with criminal law, land law, equity and trusts, and the full range of substantive areas that an LLB degree in England and Wales covers.

You will also develop the analytical habits and research skills that effective legal work demands. The year abroad and sandwich year add professional and international experience that broadens your perspective and strengthens your employability in an increasingly global profession.

Graduates of Law are well placed for a wide range of careers. The most direct pathway is qualification as a solicitor or barrister, through routes such as the Solicitors Qualifying Examination or the Bar Training and Assessment Route. Beyond legal practice, law graduates work in finance, business, government, the civil service, charities, journalism, and international organisations, where the capacity to understand and apply complex rules and to construct clear arguments is consistently valued.

Postgraduate study in law, policy, or related fields is also a well-established path.
