Law in Practice with Politics

Law shapes every dimension of public and private life, from the contracts that govern commerce to the constitutional arrangements that determine how power is exercised and held to account. Politics, in turn, is the study of those arrangements themselves, of how governments form and fall, how policies are made, and how citizens and institutions interact. At Swansea University, this four-year full-time LLB Law in Practice with Politics brings these two disciplines into close conversation, recognising that legal systems cannot be fully understood in isolation from the political contexts in which they operate.

You will cover the core areas of English and Welsh law, including contract, tort, criminal law, public law, and European and international dimensions, while also studying political theory, comparative politics, and the workings of governance at national and international levels. The combination invites you to think about law not just as a body of rules but as a product of political contestation, and to understand political institutions with an awareness of the legal frameworks that constrain and enable them. The programme is designed with workplace exposure in mind, so you will have opportunities to develop practical skills alongside the academic content.

The typical entry tariff is 120 UCAS points.

Graduates from this programme are well positioned for careers in law, whether pursuing the further qualifications needed to qualify as a solicitor or barrister, or working in paralegal and legal advisory roles. The political dimension of the degree opens additional pathways into government, public policy, think-tanks, journalism, international organisations, and the voluntary sector.
