Law and Practice

Law affects people, organisations, and society every day, from protecting rights and resolving disputes to shaping business, policy, and public life. Understanding how the law works in practice, not just in theory, is what distinguishes a genuinely professional legal education from a purely academic one. At Coventry University, this three-year full-time programme in Law and Practice is designed to help you understand how the law works and to practise applying it through legal and professional tasks from early in your studies.

You will cover the core areas of English law, including contract, tort, criminal law, constitutional and administrative law, land law, and equity and trusts, alongside legal skills in research, statutory interpretation, and the analysis of case law. The practical orientation of the programme means that you will engage regularly with applied legal tasks, developing confidence in constructing legal arguments, advising on scenarios, and communicating legal analysis clearly. The course includes a sandwich year, a year abroad, and work placement opportunities, making this a particularly rich programme in terms of professional experience.
