Law and German

Law and German is a combination that equips you for professional and intellectual work across two of the most analytically demanding disciplines available at university. The University of Edinburgh's four-year full-time Law and German programme is taught within a law school that covers both Scots and English law alongside comparative and international perspectives, giving you a broader legal education than many English-only programmes. You will study core legal subjects including constitutional law, contract, delict or tort, criminal law, and property, developing the analytical skills and legal reasoning that are foundational to professional practice or further academic work. Your German studies will develop linguistic proficiency alongside engagement with the history, literature, and culture of German-speaking countries, and you will study legal systems from a comparative perspective, including German law, which is both interesting in its own right and valuable for understanding EU law and international commercial practice.
