Law as a discipline provides the analytical and argumentative foundation for professional practice in one of the most significant of the professions. An LLB satisfies the academic stage of training for qualification in the UK and in a range of other common law jurisdictions, making it the first formal step on the route to becoming a solicitor or barrister.

At the University of Buckingham, the Law degree is delivered on a distinctive accelerated schedule, with four full teaching terms per calendar year rather than the three of a conventional university year. This structure means you can complete the full LLB in two years of continuous study rather than three, reducing both the time spent in education and the associated costs of living. The LLB at Buckingham prepares you for careers in law, governance, public service, industry, and commerce, and satisfies the academic requirements for qualification as a lawyer in several common law jurisdictions including Canada, Nigeria, the Bahamas, Ghana, and Bermuda.

You will study the core areas of English law, including contract, tort, criminal law, public law, equity and trusts, and land law, developing rigorous legal reasoning and written argumentation.

Graduates proceed to the Solicitors Qualifying Examination or Bar Course for full qualification in England and Wales, or to equivalent professional routes in other common law jurisdictions. Others enter careers in business, public administration, compliance, and related fields where legal knowledge and analytical skills are valued. Postgraduate study in specialist areas of law is also an option.
