Landscape Architecture and Design

Landscape architecture is the art and science of designing outdoor spaces, from intimate urban courtyards and city parks to regional greenways, flood resilience landscapes, and restored ecosystems. It is a discipline that works at multiple scales simultaneously, asking how individual sites can be made beautiful and functional while contributing to the ecological health and social wellbeing of the broader environment. Landscape architects shape the experience of the outdoor world, making decisions that affect how people move through cities, how communities access green space, and how landscapes respond to the pressures of climate change and urban growth.

Leeds Beckett University's three-year full-time Landscape Architecture and Design programme develops both the creative and the technical competencies the profession demands. You will study site analysis and landscape survey, planting design, materials and construction, urban design, ecological principles, and the planning and policy frameworks within which landscape architects work. Studio design projects form the core of the curriculum, giving you the experience of working through the full design process from site investigation and concept development to resolved proposals, drawings, and specifications.

The programme includes a year abroad, which can be a formative experience for landscape architects, exposing you to different spatial traditions, climatic contexts, and cultural approaches to the designed environment.

A typical entry tariff of 120 points reflects an accessible programme with serious creative and professional content, and you will build a portfolio of work across the three years that demonstrates your design development.

Graduates pursue careers as landscape architects, urban designers, landscape planners, ecological consultants, and public realm specialists in consultancy, local government, housing developers, and the public sector. Membership of the Landscape Institute is the professional route for those practising in the UK. Postgraduate study in landscape architecture or urban design is also open to those wishing to specialise further.
