Land Economy
Land economy, now also known as environment, law and economics at Cambridge, is a discipline concerned with how land and property are owned, used, managed and governed in both urban and rural contexts. It is an intrinsically interdisciplinary subject, drawing on law to examine property rights, planning and environmental regulation; on economics to understand how markets for land, housing and natural resources function; and on policy analysis to evaluate how governments and other actors shape the use of the built and natural environments. Few subjects bring together such practically important questions about housing, planning, sustainability and governance with such analytical rigour.
At Cambridge this three-year full-time programme develops your ability to work across all three disciplines, understanding the legal frameworks that govern property and environmental management, the economic forces that shape land use patterns, and the policy choices that mediate between private interests and public goods. You will engage with real-world problems including urban development and housing supply, the economics of climate change, land use planning and the governance of natural resources. The programme benefits from Cambridge's research environment and from the extraordinary range of expertise among its faculty.
