The craft has always required clear writing, sharp editorial judgement, and a commitment to accuracy, and today it also demands digital fluency and the ability to work across multiple platforms and formats.

This three-year programme at the University of Brighton prepares you for professional journalism practice across print, broadcast, and digital media. You will develop core journalistic skills including news writing, interviewing, reporting, and subediting, alongside an understanding of media law, ethics, and the wider context in which journalism operates. The programme equips you to gather and verify information rigorously, to write with clarity and purpose under deadline pressure, and to adapt your storytelling for different audiences and platforms.

Multimedia production, data journalism, and digital publishing are integrated into the curriculum alongside traditional reporting skills. You will be encouraged to develop your own voice and area of specialism while maintaining the professional standards that underpin credible journalism.

This full-time programme includes a sandwich year and a work placement, giving you the opportunity to gain sustained real-world experience within a professional environment before you graduate. That kind of direct industry exposure is particularly valuable in a field where practical skills and professional contacts matter enormously. Graduates from journalism programmes go on to careers in newspapers, magazines, broadcast media, digital outlets, and content agencies, as well as in related roles in communications, public relations, policy, and research.
