About this course

International tourism management is a degree built on the recognition that tourism is one of the world's largest and most economically significant industries, encompassing hotels, airlines, tour operators, cruise lines, visitor attractions, destination management organisations, and a vast supporting ecosystem of services. Managing tourism internationally means navigating cultural complexity, regulatory variation, sustainability pressure, and the rapid changes in consumer behaviour and technology that characterise this dynamic sector.

At the University of Bedfordshire you will study across four years on a full-time programme that includes a professional practice year, giving you an extended period of real industry experience embedded in the degree. This practical placement is one of the most valuable features of the programme: the tourism industry relies heavily on graduates with genuine sector experience, and a professional practice year allows you to develop your skills, build industry contacts, and test your career direction before you complete your final year. The curriculum covers the breadth of the tourism, hospitality, and events industries alongside the business skills, including strategy, marketing, finance, and operations, that management roles in these sectors require.

You will examine the sustainability challenges facing global tourism, the role of digital platforms in reshaping how destinations are marketed and experienced, and the management of visitor flows, stakeholder relationships, and destination brands.

Graduates of international tourism management work across the full spectrum of the tourism and hospitality sectors. Hotels, airlines, tour operators, cruise companies, destination management organisations, visitor attractions, and tourism agencies are all significant employers. Roles in operations, sales and marketing, revenue management, customer experience, and general management are common entry-level directions.

The international dimension of the degree, and the cultural competence it develops, is particularly valued by employers in globally operating businesses. Postgraduate study in tourism management, hospitality management, or business is available for those who wish to progress towards senior leadership or specialist roles.
