International Tourism Management

International Tourism Management is a degree that takes the study of one of the world's largest and most complex industries and gives it the rigorous management education it deserves. Tourism is not a single industry but a vast system of interconnected sectors, spanning airlines, hotels, destination management, tour operation, cruise lines, visitor attractions, heritage organisations, and the digital platforms that increasingly mediate how people discover, book, and share their travel experiences. Managing within this system requires both specialist knowledge of how tourism economies work and the general management competencies that any complex business environment demands.

At Teesside University, this three-year full-time programme develops both the specialist and general dimensions of tourism management with a consistent international focus. You will study destination management and marketing, sustainable tourism, the economics of travel and hospitality, cultural tourism, events and hospitality management, and the digital transformation of the travel industry. Core management subjects including strategy, finance, marketing, and human resources provide the broader framework within which tourism decisions are made.

The programme includes a sandwich year and a year abroad, giving you the opportunity to gain professional experience in a tourism or hospitality organisation and to spend time studying tourism in an international setting. Work placements are embedded throughout, and the international character of the programme reflects the genuinely global nature of the industry you are preparing to work in.

Graduates pursue careers in destination management organisations, tour operating, hotel management, airline and travel management, convention and events management, and tourism policy. Many go on to postgraduate study in tourism management, hospitality, or related fields. The year abroad and sandwich year give graduates a practical advantage in an industry that values international experience and cultural awareness highly.
