International Relations

International relations sits at the intersection of history, politics, economics, and philosophy, asking how states and other actors interact across national boundaries and what consequences flow from those interactions. It examines the causes of war and the conditions for peace, the structure of international institutions, the dynamics of global trade and finance, human rights, climate diplomacy, and the role of non-state actors from multinational corporations to international NGOs. It is an inherently interdisciplinary field, and studying it develops both analytical depth and the ability to navigate complexity.

At King's College London this three-year full-time degree is an interdepartmental programme that draws on teaching and research from across the university, bringing multiple disciplinary perspectives to bear on global challenges. You will engage with the theoretical traditions of international relations, from realism and liberalism to constructivism and critical approaches, and apply them to contemporary events and historical patterns. The programme develops your ability to collect and evaluate a broad range of evidence, analyse complex issues, and present arguments clearly both in writing and orally.
