About this course

International business is the study of how commercial organisations operate across national borders, how they navigate the cultural, legal, economic, and political differences between countries, and how global trade and investment shape the competitive strategies of firms and the development of economies. As supply chains, markets, and workforces become increasingly international, the ability to understand and operate effectively in different national and cultural contexts has become a core professional skill, not just for people working in multinational corporations but for anyone involved in trade, investment, or management across borders.

At Dundee, this four-year full-time programme covers the core disciplines of business management alongside a sustained international focus, examining how strategies, marketing approaches, financial decisions, and operational practices need to be adapted for different national markets and regulatory environments. A year abroad is built into the programme, giving you direct experience of studying, living, and potentially working in a different country, which is both personally transformative and professionally valuable. You will develop an understanding of international trade theory, cross-cultural management, global supply chains, and the role of international institutions in shaping the business environment.

Graduates are well placed for careers in international business development, trade, finance, consultancy, logistics, and management in organisations that operate across national borders. The combination of management competence and international orientation is increasingly valued across many sectors, from global brands and financial institutions to development organisations and government bodies concerned with trade and investment. Many graduates continue to postgraduate study in international business, management, or related fields, and some build careers in specific regional markets that they encountered during their year abroad.

The course has exceeded my expectations. The best part: the cohort are bright and motivated, which makes the learning environment great. If I'm honest, would like to see more industry guest speakers in later years. On the city β€” the city is…

I was sceptical before starting β€” now I'd recommend it to anyone. The best part: the course strikes a good balance between theory and practical application. If I'm honest, the timetable has some awkward 9am / Friday afternoon slots. On the …
