About this course

International business is the study of commerce, management, and strategy in a global context. Even businesses that operate primarily in domestic markets are affected by international supply chains, exchange rates, foreign competition, and the regulatory frameworks that govern trade between countries. Organisations that consciously operate across borders face additional layers of complexity: managing workforces in multiple countries, navigating different legal systems, adapting products and marketing to different cultural contexts, and dealing with the risks that come with operating in diverse political and economic environments.

International business prepares you to understand and manage that complexity.

At the University of Huddersfield, this three-year full-time degree examines the dynamics of the global economy alongside the management principles that organisations need to operate effectively within it. You will study international trade theory, global supply chain management, cross-cultural management, international marketing, finance in a global context, and the political and regulatory dimensions of international commerce. A sandwich year placement gives you the opportunity to gain substantial professional experience in a business with an international dimension before completing the final year.

Work placement activity is integrated throughout the programme. A typical entry tariff of 120 points applies.

You will develop analytical skills, commercial awareness, cross-cultural communication, and the ability to think strategically about organisations operating in uncertain and rapidly changing international environments. The placement year is a particularly important feature, giving you the professional experience that employers in international business consistently value.

Graduates go on to careers in international trade and logistics, multinational corporations, management consultancy, export management, international marketing, finance, and entrepreneurship. Many also pursue postgraduate study, including MBA programmes with an international focus, to advance into senior management or specialist roles.
