About this course

International business management is the study of how organisations operate, compete, and grow across national borders. It addresses the strategic, operational, and cultural challenges that arise when businesses work in multiple countries, requiring practitioners to understand not just management principles but also how different regulatory environments, economic conditions, and cultural contexts shape business practice. As global supply chains, digital commerce, and cross-border investment continue to reshape the business landscape, graduates who combine management skills with genuine international understanding are increasingly valuable.

At Coventry University, this four-year programme develops your knowledge of how international businesses operate and grow. You will study strategy, marketing, finance, organisational behaviour, and cross-cultural management, building the theoretical grounding and practical capabilities needed to lead and support organisations with global operations. The programme has a strong applied emphasis, engaging with real business challenges and encouraging you to develop the analytical and decision-making skills that professional roles in international business require.

The programme includes a sandwich year and a year abroad, as well as work placement opportunities. The sandwich year gives you extended professional experience in an international business context, allowing you to apply and develop your skills in a real working environment. The year abroad further deepens your international perspective, exposing you to different business cultures and ways of working.

Together these elements significantly enhance your readiness for a global career.

Graduates from international business management programmes move into a wide range of roles across sectors including financial services, consulting, retail, logistics, manufacturing, and the public sector. Common positions include management roles in international operations, marketing and business development, supply chain and project management, and graduate scheme positions in large multinational organisations. Some graduates go on to postgraduate study in business, international management, or a specialist field such as finance or marketing.
