About this course

International business is the study of commerce, economics and management as they operate across national borders, exploring how organisations navigate different markets, cultures, legal systems and economic environments in a world of increasing global integration. The discipline is concerned with questions of strategy, trade, investment, cultural difference and governance that matter for organisations from multinational corporations to small exporters and social enterprises with international ambitions.

At Edge Hill University, this three-year programme covers international business, economics and marketing, building an understanding of how companies operate on a global platform. You will study international trade theory, global marketing strategy, cross-cultural management, international finance, economics and business ethics, developing the analytical and practical skills needed to make effective decisions in complex international environments. The programme includes a sandwich year, a year abroad and work placements, providing structured routes to develop genuine international experience alongside your studies.

The opportunity for affiliate membership of the Chartered Management Institute adds a professional dimension to your qualification that employers recognise.

The combination of academic study and structured international and professional experience that this degree provides is particularly relevant to careers in global business. Understanding different cultural contexts, regulatory environments and market dynamics is not something that can be learned from textbooks alone, and the programme's design reflects that.

Graduates go on to careers in international marketing, global supply chain management, business development, trade finance, international human resources, consultancy and logistics. Many find roles in multinational companies, international agencies, government trade and investment bodies, and organisations with significant export or import operations. Further study in international business, global management, economics or MBA programmes is also a common route for those aiming for senior leadership positions.

Exceeded expectations
Honestly, one of the best decisions I've made. The best part: small-group tutorials really push your thinking. If I'm honest, would like to see more industry guest speakers in later years. On the city β€” the city is a brilliant student city …

Solid, with caveats
It's been a mixed experience, but mostly positive. The best part: the consulting projects with real companies genuinely prepare you for the working world. If I'm honest, accommodation allocation was stressful in the first year. On the city …
