Interior Design
Interior design is the professional practice of shaping the spaces in which people live, work, and move, creating environments that are functional, aesthetically considered, and responsive to the needs and identities of those who use them. It is a discipline that sits between architecture and decorative art, concerned with the planning and organisation of interior space, the selection and coordination of surfaces, materials, light, furniture, and fittings, and the communication of design intent through drawings, models, and presentations. Good interior design is simultaneously practical and beautiful, and it has genuine consequences for how people experience the spaces of everyday life.
At Regent's University London you will study this three-year full-time programme, with a year abroad available within the degree, giving you the opportunity to experience interior design in a different cultural and architectural context. The programme teaches you the importance of location, context, and client, developing your ability to respond sensitively to the specific conditions of each project rather than applying a single visual style. You will develop your skills in design drawing, spatial planning, materials specification, digital design tools, and project presentation, alongside your understanding of the history of interior design and the sustainability considerations that increasingly shape professional practice.
Interior design graduates pursue careers as interior designers, space planners, interior architects, and design consultants across residential, commercial, hospitality, retail, and healthcare sectors. Many work in design studios, architectural practices, furniture and materials companies, and property development organisations. The design skills developed on the programme are also applicable in adjacent creative fields including set design, exhibition design, and retail and brand environment design.
Many graduates also continue to postgraduate study in interior design, architecture, or sustainable design, deepening their creative and technical specialism.
