About this course

Integrated engineering approaches the discipline from a broad perspective, recognising that the most challenging real-world problems rarely fall neatly within a single engineering specialism. Where traditional programmes focus on mechanical, electrical, or civil engineering in isolation, an integrated approach develops the ability to understand systems and solve problems that span multiple domains. This kind of cross-disciplinary engineering thinking is increasingly what industry demands, particularly as digital technologies, sustainability challenges, and systems complexity reshape what engineering means in practice.

The New Model Institute for Technology and Engineering takes an explicitly practice-oriented and employer-engaged approach to engineering education. This four-year programme includes a foundation year, which builds the mathematical, scientific, and analytical foundations needed before entering the main degree. The foundation year is designed for students who have the curiosity and aptitude for engineering but who may need to consolidate their grounding in the key subjects before progressing to honours-level study.

From the main programme onwards, you will develop engineering knowledge and skills across multiple disciplines, working on real problems in teams, learning from practitioners and industry partners, and developing the professional mindset alongside the technical capabilities that engineering careers require. Graduates from integrated engineering programmes are well prepared for a wide range of engineering roles across manufacturing, energy, infrastructure, technology, and defence. Further professional development towards chartered engineer status is a natural pathway, as is postgraduate study for those who wish to specialise more deeply.
