At Teesside University you will follow a three-year full-time programme that explores the full range of IT disciplines, developing practical skills alongside theoretical understanding. You will engage with topics including user experience and user interface design, digital tools and app development, business analysis, data management, cybersecurity and the sustainability dimensions of digital technology, including the circular economy and the business opportunities it presents. The programme includes a sandwich year and a work placement, meaning you spend significant time in a professional IT environment before you graduate, applying what you have learned to real organisational challenges and building the professional experience that graduate employers value.
Information technology graduates work across virtually every sector of the economy, since every organisation of any scale depends on IT systems and needs people who can manage, develop and improve them. Roles include IT project manager, business analyst, systems administrator, UX designer, application developer, data analyst, and technology consultant. Financial services, healthcare, retail, government, education, media and the technology industry itself all employ IT graduates in significant numbers.
Many graduates also move into entrepreneurial paths, using their understanding of digital technology to build products and services. Postgraduate study in IT management, data science, cybersecurity, software engineering or business information systems is an option for those wishing to specialise or pursue leadership roles.
