About this course

Information technology and media and communication is a combination that reflects how thoroughly digital technology has reshaped the way information is created, distributed, and consumed. Information technology provides the technical foundations for understanding how systems work, how data is managed, and how software is designed and built. Media and communication provides the analytical and creative frameworks for understanding how messages, representations, and content reach audiences and what effects they have.

Together they equip you for a digital landscape where technical and communicative skills are increasingly inseparable.

At Liverpool Hope University, this four-year programme includes a foundation year, a sandwich year, a year abroad, and a work placement component, making it one of the most experience-rich programmes of its type. The foundation year provides a supported entry into higher education for students who need additional preparation, and the subsequent sandwich year and placements give you real professional experience in IT and media or communications contexts. You will develop skills in programming, systems design, database management, and digital media production alongside critical understanding of media theory, digital culture, and communication in organisational settings.

Graduates work across technology, media, communications, digital marketing, content production, social media management, UX design, IT consulting, and the many roles where digital technical skills and communicative intelligence are both required. The breadth of the programme, reinforced by substantial professional experience, means graduates can operate in generalist digital roles and specialise as their careers develop. Further study in information technology, digital media, communications, or a specialist computing field is open to those who wish to develop further expertise.

A great decision
Honestly, one of the best decisions I've made. The best part: access to facilities (workshop, equipment, specialist software) is genuinely first-rate. If I'm honest, admin can be slow to respond, especially at start of term. On the city β€” t…

Would do it again
I've grown so much academically and personally here. The best part: the cohort are bright and motivated, which makes the learning environment great. If I'm honest, the timetable has some awkward 9am / Friday afternoon slots. On the city β€” g…
