Latin opens the primary sources of ancient Rome and medieval Europe, allowing you to read legal, philosophical, literary, and administrative texts in the language in which they were written, adding a depth to historical understanding that translation alone cannot provide.

At Glasgow, one of Scotland's leading research universities, this four-year full-time programme offers a wide-ranging history curriculum spanning medieval to modern times and reaching across the globe. The history component draws on research expertise in Scottish, British, European, US and global history, as well as slavery studies, gender history, and war, intelligence, and genocide studies. Alongside this, your Latin studies develop linguistic competence alongside the reading of classical and medieval texts in their original form.

A year abroad is built into the programme, giving you the opportunity to study in a different academic and cultural environment, whether that involves classical languages, history, or a broader range of humanities study.
