History and business and management is a combination that might seem unlikely at first glance, but it reflects a genuine and growing recognition that the best business thinking is historically informed. History trains you to understand how institutions develop and change over time, to see the contingency of present arrangements, and to draw on evidence from the past to illuminate current challenges. Business and management provides the conceptual tools to understand how organisations are structured and led, how markets operate, how strategy is formed, and how people and resources are deployed.

Together, the two disciplines develop professionals who can bring depth of perspective to complex organisational challenges.

Studied part-time at the University of Glasgow, this degree draws on one of the UK's strongest and most diverse history programmes alongside business education. The history component offers a wide-ranging curriculum from medieval to modern times and across the globe, with Glasgow's research strengths covering Scottish, British, European, US, and global history, as well as slavery studies, gender history, and war, intelligence, and genocide studies. You will develop the skills of historical research, archival analysis, and extended argument alongside the conceptual frameworks of business and management education.

A year abroad is incorporated into the programme, giving you the opportunity to study in another academic and cultural environment and to broaden your perspective on both history and business practice.
