About this course

Health and wellbeing combined with sport and physical education addresses a fundamental shift in how we understand human flourishing. The promotion of health and the prevention of illness, rather than the treatment of disease after the fact, has become a priority in public health policy, and there is growing evidence that physical activity, community connection and supportive environments are as important to wellbeing as clinical care. This degree prepares you to work at the intersection of these ideas.

At Liverpool Hope University you will explore the social, psychological and physiological dimensions of health and wellbeing, examining the structural and environmental factors that drive health inequalities and the approaches most effective in promoting healthy lives across communities. The sport and physical education strand gives you a grounding in pedagogy, coaching, curriculum design and the social significance of physical activity, with a particular focus on inclusion and lifelong participation. The programme runs over three years full time and includes a sandwich year in industry, a year abroad and work placement opportunities, giving you an unusually rich combination of practical professional experience and international exposure alongside your academic study.

Graduates are prepared for careers in schools, community health settings, sports development organisations, local government, public health bodies and the charity sector. The combination of health promotion knowledge and physical education expertise is particularly well suited to roles in community sport, health improvement, youth work and wellbeing coordination. Some graduates go on to postgraduate study in public health, sport science, physical education or health psychology, while others move directly into roles working with children, young people or communities to build healthier, more active lives.
