Graphic Design with Foundation

Graphic design shapes nearly everything we see in the built and digital world: the way information is presented, the feel of a brand, the legibility of a poster, the experience of navigating a website. This four-year full-time programme at the University of Plymouth includes a foundation year at the outset, designed to develop the practical, technical, academic, and creative skills you will need before embarking on the degree proper. The programme also includes a year abroad, which offers an invaluable opportunity to study within a different design culture, encounter new influences, and build an international perspective that enriches your practice.

Graduates of graphic design programmes work across a remarkably wide range of contexts. Advertising agencies, in-house brand teams, publishing houses, digital studios, packaging, motion graphics, UX and interface design, and independent freelance practice all draw on graphic design graduates. Many also move into art direction, creative direction, or teaching.

The skills developed through the programme, including visual problem-solving, digital production, and the ability to communicate complex ideas clearly, are transferable to many related creative fields. Postgraduate study in design, communication design, or related areas is also an option for those wishing to specialise further.
