German is one of the most important languages in Europe and the world, spoken by more than 100 million people and central to the politics, culture, and intellectual life of the European Union. It is the language of Goethe, Kafka, and Thomas Mann, of Kant and Hegel, of Weimar cinema and contemporary German literature, and studying it at the highest level gives you access to an extraordinarily rich cultural heritage as well as to one of the world's most significant economies.
