German and Music Studies

German and music studies is a combination with genuine intellectual depth and practical significance. At Aberdeen this four-year full-time programme develops your German language skills and cultural knowledge alongside the opportunity to study, compose, and perform music with world-renowned composers and musicologists working across all genres, styles, and periods. You will grow as both a linguist and a musician, developing your practical abilities in performance and composition alongside the scholarly and analytical skills of music studies. The programme includes a year abroad, giving you the opportunity to spend time in a German-speaking environment and to experience musical life in the country whose cultural traditions you are studying.

Graduates move into careers in music performance, music education, arts administration, cultural organisations, translation and interpreting in musical contexts, and roles connected to German-speaking cultural institutions.
