Geography/Scottish History
Geography and Scottish History is a combination degree that brings together the study of the Earth's physical and human landscapes with a deep engagement in the history of one of Europe's most distinctive nations. Geography is concerned with the variability of physical and human landscapes and the interrelationships that bind them together, addressing issues that range from coastal management and environmental hazards through to migration, solidarity and urban development. Scottish History examines the political, social, cultural and economic forces that have shaped Scotland from its earliest recorded past to the present, engaging with questions of national identity, religious change, empire, industrialisation and the development of modern Scottish society and governance.
At the University of Glasgow, this four-year full-time programme includes a year abroad, enriching both your geographical and historical perspectives through study in a different national and cultural context. You will develop skills in qualitative and statistical data analysis, independent research and geographical fieldwork alongside the primary source analysis and historical argumentation that Scottish History demands.
