Geography is the discipline that occupies the space between the human and natural worlds, examining how physical environments are formed and transformed, how people inhabit and shape the places they live in, and how the interactions between society and environment create the landscapes, economies, and inequalities we observe around us. At Aberystwyth University, one of the UK's most established geography departments, you study the discipline in a setting that brings the physical environment directly into your learning experience. This four-year full-time degree includes an integrated year in industry, giving you twelve months of professional experience alongside your academic studies.

You will develop both physical and human geographical knowledge, building quantitative and qualitative research skills alongside an understanding of environmental processes, spatial patterns, and the social and political dimensions of place. The programme covers topics from geomorphology and climatology to urban geography, migration, economic development, and environmental management, and fieldwork is a central part of how you develop both knowledge and professional competence. The integrated year in industry provides substantial professional experience in a relevant organisation, whether in environmental consultancy, public bodies, research, or another geography-related field, and it enhances your employability considerably.

Graduates from geography with industry experience are well placed for careers in environmental consultancy, local government and planning, development organisations, conservation, geographical information systems, climate and environmental science, education, and the voluntary sector.
