Geography

Geography is the study of the surface of the Earth as the site of human living and working, considering the variability in physical and human landscapes along with the interrelationships binding them together. It is a dynamic, relevant, and ever-changing subject at the heart of many local and global current issues, ranging widely from coastal management and environmental hazards to migration, solidarity, and urban geography. Through the geography you develop a number of key skills and experiences such as qualitative and statistical data analysis and independent research that are attractive to a wide range of employers.

At the University of Glasgow, this four-year full-time MA (Hons) programme is taught within one of the UK's leading geography departments, with research strengths spanning physical geography, human geography, and environmental geographies that connect the two. You will engage with geographic theory, methods in both physical and human geography, fieldwork across different environments, spatial data analysis including geographic information systems, and the specialist topics that reflect current geographic research. A year abroad is part of the programme, giving you the opportunity to study geography in another country and develop an international perspective on the physical and human processes you have studied.
