About this course

Games technology is the technical discipline concerned with building the systems and tools that power interactive entertainment and simulations. Where games design focuses on the creative and conceptual dimensions of game-making, games technology is rooted in programming, software engineering, and the computational principles that underlie real-time interactive systems. Game engines, graphics pipelines, physics simulations, artificial intelligence systems, and network architectures are all within the purview of games technology, and the skills they require overlap substantially with those needed in simulation, defence, film and visual effects, and enterprise software.

At Coventry University, this four-year, full-time degree with a foundation year is designed for students who need an additional preparatory year before entering the main programme. The foundation year builds the programming and mathematical foundations needed for degree-level technical study in games technology. Through the main degree, you will develop advanced programming skills, gain experience with game engine technologies, and work with real-time computing systems in the context of hands-on projects and industry collaboration.
