French and Ukrainian

French and Ukrainian is a language combination with both intellectual richness and striking contemporary relevance. French is one of the world's major languages, spoken on every inhabited continent and used in international diplomacy, commerce, science, and culture. It opens access to one of the great literary and intellectual traditions in European history, as well as to the diverse cultures of Francophone Africa, the Caribbean, and beyond.

Ukrainian is a Slavic language with a distinct and important literary tradition, and given Ukraine's position at the centre of European politics and international attention, the ability to engage with Ukrainian language and culture carries a significance that extends well beyond linguistics.

University College London's four-year BA in French and Ukrainian is a joint honours programme that divides equally between the two languages. As the course itself describes, you will take modules not only in language, covering speaking, listening, reading, writing, and translation, but also in cultural topics including literature, history, film, linguistics, and politics, with a wide variety of modules allowing you to tailor the degree to your interests. The third year is spent abroad, split between two countries where your languages are spoken, giving you deep immersion in both French-speaking and Ukrainian-speaking cultural environments.
