Studying French alongside legal studies is a combination that makes both intellectual and practical sense. At Aberdeen this five-year full-time programme includes an entire third year spent studying in a French-speaking country, an immersive year that is designed to take your language skills to a genuine level of competence and to give you direct exposure to legal and cultural life in a Francophone environment. You will develop a solid grounding in French language and culture alongside study of the law, including European law and its effects on everyday life in the UK and beyond. The programme engages with issues that are both topical and controversial, developing your ability to analyse legal problems in more than one linguistic and jurisdictional context.

Graduates of French and legal studies programmes find strong career options in European affairs, international law, the diplomatic service, legal practice in firms with European connections, and roles in international organisations and institutions.
