About this course

Forensic science applies the methods and knowledge of the natural sciences to the investigation of crime and the legal processes that follow from it. It draws on chemistry, biology, physics, and related disciplines to examine physical evidence, from trace materials and DNA to digital data and toxicological samples, translating scientific findings into information that courts can use to establish facts and support the pursuit of justice. This three-year full-time degree at Wrexham University includes a foundation year entry route, allowing students who need additional preparation to build their scientific and analytical foundations before progressing to degree-level study.

Your first year introduces the fundamental principles of forensic science, covering crime scene investigation, laboratory techniques, and the legal procedures that govern the use of scientific evidence. You will develop skills in handling forensic evidence carefully and responsibly, interpreting chemical and biological data, and applying statistical methods to the analysis of results. As the programme progresses, you will engage with more advanced forensic techniques and with the broader scientific and legal contexts in which forensic evidence is used, including the standards of rigour that expert testimony must meet.
