About this course

Forensic biology is the application of biological science to the investigation of crime and the legal process. It draws on anatomy, physiology, genetics, and molecular biology to analyse biological evidence, whether that is DNA from a crime scene, human remains in a forensic context, or the biological markers that help establish identity, cause of death, or the circumstances of a criminal event. The discipline requires both scientific rigour and an understanding of how biological evidence is collected, preserved, and presented in legal proceedings.

At Keele University, this three-year full-time BSc bridges forensic science and biology, equipping you with skills in forensic identification, investigation, and analysis alongside an in-depth understanding of anatomy, physiology, and genetics. You will gain hands-on experience in Keele's state-of-the-art laboratories and authentic crime science facilities, working with forensic evidence in realistic contexts that build both technical competence and professional judgment. The programme includes a sandwich year, providing professional experience in a forensic or biology-related setting, a year abroad option, and work placements, all of which develop your employability alongside your scientific training.
