Fine art is the practice of making work that operates in the space between ideas and materials, using drawing, painting, sculpture, printmaking, video, installation, or digital media to engage with questions that cannot be resolved through words alone. It is a discipline that demands both technical skill and conceptual rigour, and that asks students to develop a genuine and personal relationship with their own practice rather than simply learning a set of techniques. At the University of Suffolk this three-year full-time programme provides a diverse and vibrant creative community in which students engage actively in both critical practice and practical skills. You will develop your own artistic voice in dialogue with the work of other practitioners, past and present, while building technical competence across a range of media. Critical and contextual study is integral to the programme, developing your ability to articulate and defend your own practice, to engage with the history and theory of contemporary art, and to situate your work in its wider cultural and intellectual context.
