Fine Art

Fine art is the practice and study of visual art in its broadest sense, encompassing painting, drawing, printmaking, sculpture, photography, installation, film, and the experimental and conceptual approaches that have expanded what art can be over the past century. Fine art study at university is not primarily about acquiring technical skills, though technical development is part of it. It is about developing a sustained and individual practice, building the critical language to understand and articulate what your work is doing, and engaging seriously with the history and theory of art as a context for your own making.

At Aberystwyth University, this three-year full-time programme allows you to develop your skills and practice across a range of media, including painting, printmaking, drawing, photography, book illustration, experimental film, installation, and site-specific performance. The breadth of media available means that you are not locked into a single approach from the outset, and you can allow your practice to develop in directions that genuinely interest you. Graduates of fine art programmes follow a wide range of paths.
