Fine Art: Drawing
Drawing is one of the oldest and most versatile of human practices, a means of thinking, communicating, recording and imagining that spans everything from the rapid observational sketch to the elaborate architectural plan, the comic strip, the animation frame and the screen-based mark. At the University of the Arts London, the BA Fine Art: Drawing at Camberwell College of Arts treats contemporary drawing not as a single technique but as a way of questioning and communicating our relationship to the world. From pencils to pixels, drawing is understood as immediate, affordable, portable and adaptable, a tool that can be scaled from the intimate to the monumental and used to investigate any subject.
This three-year full-time programme is rooted in a shared passion for drawing as a critical and creative practice. You will develop your own approach to drawing as a fine art medium while engaging with the history and theory of drawing across cultures and periods. The programme encourages you to push at the boundaries of what drawing can be, to experiment with materials, scale, context and process, and to develop a practice that is intellectually grounded as well as technically accomplished.
A sandwich year and a work placement are both part of the programme, giving you professional experience alongside your studio development and building the understanding of how drawing functions in industry, publishing, film, design and education as well as in gallery contexts.

Graduates pursue careers as practising artists, illustrators, animators, graphic artists, print-makers, educators and arts practitioners. Drawing skills are valued across animation studios, publishing houses, game design studios, advertising agencies, architectural practices and fashion houses, as well as in gallery and museum contexts. Some graduates pursue postgraduate study in fine art, illustration or related disciplines, while others build portfolio careers combining studio practice with commercial and educational work.
