About this course

Financial mathematics is the application of mathematical and statistical methods to the modelling, analysis, and management of financial systems. It is the intellectual foundation of quantitative finance, encompassing the pricing of financial instruments, the measurement and management of risk, the modelling of asset prices, and the design of financial strategies under uncertainty. As financial markets have become more complex and computational, the demand for mathematicians and statisticians with the ability to reason rigorously about financial problems has grown steadily.

At the University of Nottingham, this three-year full-time programme combines a rigorous mathematical education with deep engagement with the theory and practice of finance. You will study calculus, probability, statistics, linear algebra, differential equations, and numerical methods alongside financial theory, derivative pricing, stochastic calculus, portfolio optimisation, and risk management.
