At the University of Brighton, this programme includes a foundation year and a sandwich year with a work placement, making it four years in total for students who undertake the full pathway. The foundation year provides a supported entry into degree-level study, building the mathematical, economic, and analytical skills needed before the main finance and investment programme begins. From the main programme onwards, you will study financial theory and practice in depth, covering topics such as financial markets, corporate finance, investment analysis, portfolio theory, financial risk management, and quantitative methods.
You will develop strong quantitative skills and the ability to apply financial models to real investment decisions, alongside an understanding of the regulatory and institutional context in which finance professionals operate.
The work placement is a significant component of this programme, giving you professional experience in a finance, banking, investment, or related role before you complete your degree. That exposure is highly valuable in a competitive professional field where employers look for practical experience as well as academic knowledge. Graduates go on to careers in investment banking, asset management, corporate treasury, financial analysis, insurance and risk, financial consulting, and the public sector.
Many also pursue professional qualifications in accounting or investment management. The foundation year makes the programme accessible to students who have the aptitude and interest for finance and want to ensure they are thoroughly prepared to succeed.
