About this course

Finance and accounting together provide a comprehensive grounding in the financial dimensions of organisational life. Accounting is concerned with recording, classifying and interpreting financial information, providing the foundation for auditing, tax, management reporting and regulatory compliance. Finance extends into the theory and practice of investment, capital markets, risk management and corporate financial decision-making.

The two disciplines are deeply complementary, and graduates who understand both are well positioned for careers in financial services, business and the public sector.

At Roehampton University, the three-year full-time programme includes a foundation year for students who need additional preparation, a sandwich year, a year abroad and a work placement, giving you a broad range of opportunities to develop your academic preparation, professional experience and international perspectives. You will study financial and management accounting, corporate finance, investment theory, taxation, auditing and business law, developing both the technical knowledge and the analytical skills that professional qualifications and employers expect.

Roehampton's London location places you within reach of the UK's financial services sector and the wide range of professional firms, banks and corporate finance departments based in the capital. The international character of London's financial community enriches the international dimension of the degree, and the year abroad provides direct experience of studying in a different financial and regulatory environment.

Graduates of finance and accounting programmes work in chartered accountancy firms, investment banking, corporate finance, financial analysis, tax advisory, internal audit, insurance, the public sector and the finance functions of businesses across all industries. Many pursue professional qualifications with ACCA, ICAEW, CIMA or the CFA Institute. Postgraduate study in finance, accounting, taxation or business administration is a common route for those who want to specialise.
