Film & Television Studies/German

Film and television studies and German is a pairing that brings together the critical analysis of screen culture with deep engagement with the German language and its cinematic and cultural traditions. Film and television studies examines moving image media as art forms, cultural products, and social phenomena, asking how films and television programmes are made, what they mean, how they function within their industries, and what their relationship is to the societies that produce and consume them. German connects you to one of the most significant national cinemas in film history, from the Expressionist films of the Weimar Republic to the New German Cinema of Fassbinder, Herzog, and Wenders, and to the contemporary German-language film and television landscape.

At the University of Glasgow, this five-year full-time degree is taught by leading researchers in film and television studies whose expertise informs their teaching. Glasgow's strong connections with the city's creative and cultural organisations are built into the programme, with representatives from industry including policy-makers and screen practitioners contributing to core courses.
