Film, Television and Digital Production
Film, television and digital media are the dominant storytelling forms of our time, shaping how we understand the world, how we relate to each other, and what we find meaningful. Behind every film, broadcast or digital production is a complex creative and technical process involving writers, directors, producers, editors, cinematographers and a host of other specialists working in collaboration. Studying Film, Television and Digital Production gives you an understanding of that process from both the creative and the craft perspective, developing your capacity as a maker and your ability to think critically about the media landscape you work within.
At Royal Holloway, University of London, this three-year full-time degree takes both the creative and critical dimensions of the subject seriously. You will develop your voice as a creator across film, television and digital formats, working on productions that require you to think through the full arc from concept to delivery. Alongside practical work, you will study the histories, theories and industrial contexts of the media you work in, developing the analytical frameworks that distinguish a reflective practitioner from a purely technical one.
The programme includes a sandwich year, a year abroad, and work placement opportunities, meaning you will gain substantial professional experience before you graduate. Royal Holloway's proximity to London gives the programme a natural connection to the UK film and television industry.
Graduates go on to work across the creative and media industries in roles including production, directing, editing, cinematography, arts administration, broadcasting, digital content creation, and development.
