Film and Television Production

Film and television production is the practice of making moving-image content for cinema and broadcast, encompassing the full creative and technical process from development and scripting through directing, camera work, editing, and post-production to delivery and distribution. It is a field that requires both creative vision and technical fluency, and the best practitioners understand storytelling at a deep level as well as how to realise that vision through the tools of production. The film and television industries are among the most dynamic sectors of the creative economy, and the demand for skilled, versatile practitioners is consistent.

At the University of East Anglia, you will study film and television production over three years full-time, developing your storytelling skills through hands-on production experience while also learning how to navigate the creative media industries. The programme combines practical production work across different formats and genres with critical study of film and television as cultural and industrial forms, giving you both the technical and the conceptual tools to work effectively in the industry. You will build a portfolio of work throughout the course that demonstrates your range and capability to potential employers and collaborators.

The typical entry tariff is 120 UCAS points.

Graduates work in film and television production in a wide range of roles, including directing, producing, camera operation, editing, sound design, and production management. Many build careers in independent production, television drama, documentary, advertising, and online content. The skills developed in film and television production are also transferable to corporate video, event production, and digital content creation.

Many graduates also continue to postgraduate study in film production, screen writing, or media studies, developing their practice and professional networks further.
