Film and Media

Film and media studies examines how audio-visual and digital media forms shape and are shaped by the societies in which they operate. The discipline is concerned with understanding how films, television programmes, and digital content are produced, distributed, and consumed, and with the cultural, political, and economic dimensions of media as one of the most powerful forces in contemporary life. Film and media are not simply entertainment: they construct and contest ideas about identity, power, nationality, gender, and history in ways that require systematic analysis and critical thinking.

At Lincoln this three-year full-time programme responds to a landscape that is constantly changing, developing your understanding and appreciation of how the inter-related release of film, television, and modern digital media both entertain global audiences and serve to reflect, shape, and influence the societies in which they are created. You will develop critical and analytical tools for examining media texts alongside the historical and theoretical frameworks needed to understand how the film and media industries have developed and where they are heading. The programme includes a sandwich year, a year abroad, and a work placement, giving you a rich combination of professional and international experience alongside your critical study, connecting academic learning to the realities of working in the media sector.

Graduates find careers across the media industries, including film and television production, broadcasting, digital content creation, journalism, public relations, marketing, advertising, and arts administration. The analytical and communication skills developed through critical film and media study are also valued in policy, education, and research contexts.
