Film and Drama

Film and drama are among the oldest and most powerful forms of human storytelling, and their relationship has shaped both art forms profoundly. Drama provided the narrative structures and performative traditions that cinema inherited and transformed; film, in turn, has expanded what drama can mean and how it reaches audiences. Studying them together allows you to understand each art form more fully, developing both critical intelligence and practical creative skills across the full range of screen and stage production.

At Bangor University this three-year full-time programme develops your understanding and practice across both disciplines. You will analyse films and theatrical works from a range of periods and traditions, learning the critical vocabularies and theoretical frameworks that help you articulate how and why creative works succeed or fail. Alongside this analytical work you will develop practical skills in performance, direction, screenwriting, production, and collaborative creative making.

The programme includes a foundation year for students who prefer an additional year of preparation before the main degree, as well as a sandwich year that gives you the opportunity to spend time in a professional environment, and a year abroad for those who want to study at an international partner institution. Work placement opportunities are also built into the programme, providing experience in professional contexts relevant to your interests.
