About this course

Fashion Communication is the discipline concerned with how fashion brands, designers, and industries tell their stories and connect with audiences across a rapidly evolving media landscape. It sits at the intersection of marketing strategy, creative direction, visual communication, and cultural analysis, requiring practitioners who can think both strategically about how a brand positions itself and creatively about the campaigns, content, and experiences through which that positioning is expressed.

At Manchester Metropolitan University, this three-year, full-time degree covers all areas of fashion communication, combining marketing theory with hands-on practical work that develops real professional capability. You will explore brand strategy and storytelling, consumer behaviour, and current trends alongside the skills needed to create compelling visual content and marketing campaigns that work across traditional and digital platforms. The degree includes a sandwich year and work placements, giving you the opportunity to develop your skills in real professional environments and to build the portfolio and industry connections that fashion communications roles demand.

Graduates work across a wide range of roles in the fashion and creative industries: brand communications, social media management, fashion journalism, content creation, art direction, public relations, styling, and digital marketing are all natural destinations. The combination of strategic and creative skills the degree develops is also transferable to communications roles in other consumer-facing industries. Postgraduate study in fashion marketing, creative communications, or brand management provides routes to more specialised roles for those who wish to continue their academic development.
